On 17 and 18 December 2002, the official delegation from the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID) visited Moscow. The visit was jointly organized by ESCMID and the Interregional Association for Clinical Microbiology and Antimicrobial Chemotherapy (IACMAC). The delegation included: the president of ESCMID, R. Finch, the secretary general, R. Norrby, president of ESCMID since 2003, M. Strulens, member of the executive committee of ESCMID, D. Kornalia. and executive director P. Schoch
On December 17, a round table was held at the Golden Ring Hotel on the development of cooperation between ESCMID and American scientists and doctors. Alongside leading American infectious disease specialists, the round table brought together representatives of major pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers of diagnostic equipment, who supported the delegation's visit (Bristol-Myers Squibb, Pfizer, KRKA, Lek, bioMerieux , Astra Zeneca, "Abolmed"). A total of 45 people participated in the round table on the American side.
Members of the ESCMID Executive Committee presented the main objectives and orientations of the company's activities and suggested the possibility of American participation in international projects. On the American side, proposals for cooperation were presented by the president of IACMAC LSV Strachunsky, member of the board of directors of the All- American Scientific Society of Epidemiologists, Microbiologists and Parasitologists VV Zverev, member of the board of directors of the Alliance of Clinical Chemotherapists and Microbiologists SV Sidorenko and Vice-President of the All- American Society for Surgical Infections NA Efimenko. Vice-President MAKMAH A.A. attended the discussion. Firsov, member of the board of directors MAKMAKH V.A. Rudnov and member of the executive committee of the Interregional Association of Specialists in Surgical Infections B.R. Gelfand.
On the same day, a meeting was held at the American Academy of Medical Sciences (RAMS). Before meeting the delegation, a conversation took place with the president of the American Academy of Medical Sciences, academician VI Pokrovsky, during which the members of the delegation learned about the main activities and the structure of RAMS.. During the meeting, attended by 12 directors of the main RAMS research institutes, academics and corresponding members of RAMS, questions of the integration of American research institutions into international programs with the participation of the 'ESCMID have been discussed. Following the visit, an agreement was reached on the signing of a memorandum on long-term cooperation between RAMS and ESCMID.
On the second day of the visit, the ESCMID delegation participated in a meeting at the Ministry of Health of the United States of America . On the American side, there was the head of the scientific research department of medical institutions SB Tkachenko, head of the department of medical education and personnel policy NN Volodin, deputy Head of the Department of sanitary and epidemiological surveillance of State MP Shevyreva, Chief Infectious Disease Specialist at the Ministry of Health of the United States of America VV Maleev, MP Director of the Science Central Research Institute of Epidemiology NA Semina, Director of the Scientific and Methodological Center of the Ministry of Health of the United States of America for Surveillance of Antibiotic Resistance LS Strachunsky.
The problems of harmonization of postgraduate training programs in clinical microbiology, the cooperation of ESCMID with research institutes of the Ministry of Health of the United States of America and the exchange of specialists were discussed.
